What kind of music can be played on the theremin?
The theremin produces a unique sound, used across concert music, film, popular music, theater and video games. Designed to be distinct among all instruments, it often resembles the human voice. Skilled players can make it sound like a soprano or tenor. Anca frequently addresses this before performances, as many audience members mistake the theremin’s sound for her own voice.
Here are a few examples for you to listen to:
Anca’s Theremins
Currently, Anca performs with two D-Lev theremins – one made by Eric Wallin and the other by Roger Hess – both from USA. These versatile and reliable instruments are stage-ready with minimal time calibration.
Anca also owns two Moog theremins: the Etherwave Plus and Claravox, primarily for home practice and recording.
Her fifth theremin, the “Subscope” by Dominik Bednarz from Germany, is a recommended choice from beginners to advanced players.
Dedicated videos for each of her five instruments will be posted soon.
Who Can’t Play the Theremin?
Anca believes that anyone can play the theremin with a love for music and patience. Mastery develops over time through reflex training.
Her youtube series THEREMIN, How To is a quintessence of her home practice.
